Father’s Day activities for every Dad

Our top Father’s Day activities for every Dad

Dads are SO special, so this Father’s Day let’s show them how much we appreciate all that they do for us. Because not all Dads are equal, we’ve come up with a shortlist of what we think Brisbane Dad’s may like do this year…apart from sleeping in, that is. Yeh, like that’s going to happen!

Whilst, not all of our readers come from Brissie, this list may give you inspiration for activities to research in your area. We’ve got the Foodie Loving Dad, Vintage Loving Dad, Fitness Loving Dad, Movie Loving Dad and the don’t-make-a-fuss Dad covered. Read our top picks for every Dad below.

The Foodie Loving Dad

Sample tucker, tipple and tunes at the Boaters and Beer’s Celebration

sunday by the river fathersday

Why not take Dad to the Father’s Day Boaters and Beer’s Celebration at Newstead House between 10.00am and 4.00pm for an afternoon of beer, food and jazz. This Father’s Day head down to the Sunday By The River event where you can sample the scrumptious grub by Brisbane’s best food trucks, beer from Newstead Brewing Company and Jazz music by JMI, Jazz Music Institute. Newstead House is Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence and a gorgeous setting for a casual picnic with some tunes. BYO picnic blankets and enjoy the beer, live music and a picnic lunch.

The Vintage Loving Dad

Take in the views with Steam Train Sunday

Steam Train Sunday

Train loving dads will enjoy the Steam Train Sunday journey from Roma Street Station. Sit back and relax on this one hour journey in vintage carriages, aboard a beautiful restored steam locomotive. The whole family can take in the remarkable views as the steam train makes its way through city stations and suburbs, past Brisbane landmarks and over river crossings.

Bookings are essential and children under three go free. Bargain!

The Fitness Loving Dad

Hike the Summit Track, J.C. Slaughter Falls

Why not take a short walk with Dad this Father’s Day. There are so many popular walking tracks around Brissie, but the Summit Track is a personal favourite. The Summit Track is 1.9 kilometres and should take approximately 30 minutes. This track goes from J.C. Slaughter Falls Picnic Area to Mt Coot-tha Lookout near the roundabout. The Summit Track is graded as moderate and is a great little morning activity. Finish your walk off with brekkie at the Summit Restaurant or for somewhere a bit more casual, there is the Kuta Café.

The Mt Coot-tha Forest track offers different walks and trails for a range of skill levels. Click on the link to view the Mt Coot-tha Forest track map.

The Movie Loving Dad

Watch a movie at Blue Room Cinebar

Blue Room Cinebar

If your Dad loves movies then a ticket to the cinema could be a winner. We rate Blue Room Cinebar in Rosalie. There is nothing that some Dad’s would love better than watching a movie, with a beer in one hand, pizza in the other and a super comfy sofa chair to kick back in. Hell, we’re sold!

See what’s showing now at Blue Room Cinebar.

The don’t-make-a-fuss Dad

Relax and picnic at Rocks Riverside Park

Rocks Riverside Park

If your Dad doesn’t want a fuss made out of him on Father’s Day, then a quiet family picnic could do the trick. There are many beautiful parks in Brissie but Rocks Riverside Park in Seventeen Mile Rocks is one of our best. There are picnic areas and BBQ’s available. There is also approximately 8,000 metre square of open grassed area, 800 metre riverside promenade for walking or cycling, junior playground suitable for toddlers to eight year olds, climbing net/fort and flying fox for school aged children, water play area, half-size basketball court, community garden, public art and industrial artefacts reflecting the park’s industrial heritage and free wi-fi (for the teenagers who need to stay connected). This park seriously has it all covered. Sit back relax and make a big deal of Dad.

We hope that our list has given you some inspiration this Father’s Day activities this year, 2016. Whatever you land up doing – have fun and don’t forget to tell Dad how AWESOME he is!
