What is Hip Dysplasia?

Hip Dysplasia means that the bones of the hip joint are not aligned correctly. Hip Dysplasia affects thousands of children and adults each year. According to IHDI, approximately 1 out of 6 newborns will have some type of hip instability and 2-3 out of every 1,000 infants will require treatment. The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of those afflicted with hip dysplasia. According to an article written by ergoPouch earlier this year, studies have shown that tight wrapping in the "papoose" position (legs held straight down) can lead to hip dysplasia and dislocation. When wrapping babies, it is recommended to leave enough room for baby’s legs to move freely. Swaddling can be an effective way of settling a restless infant, and has been advocated by leading physicians, but if not performed in a safe fashion can affect the development of baby’s hips.

How are ergoPouch hip-healthy?
